I once dreamed of being loved, and I've truly felt love too. But it was only after each experience ended that I belatedly realized how precious that affection really was. Maybe it was insecurity — the feeling that I didn't deserve her, or fear of the distance and loneliness that come with a long-distance relationship. My emotional dullness was like a house with all its doors and windows shut tight. Even though I could clearly hear love's footsteps pacing outside, I always assumed they were just passing by, heading toward someone else.
Until one day, those footsteps stopped at my door, and the doorbell rang. She told me over and over that she hadn't come to the wrong place. I hesitated, but eventually I opened the door. She stepped inside, drank the tea I made, and quietly listened as I poured out the stories buried deep in my heart. In that moment, I felt a warmth and peace I had never known before. But before long, she turned and left, leaving me alone again in that house.
After that, the house had no more life in it. Dust began to gather in the corners. I started to understand that not everyone who rings your doorbell comes bearing good things. Maybe she was just passing through my life, leaving behind a brief moment of warmth but carrying away my hopes and shattering my illusions. From then on, I stopped letting my heart leap at every knock on the door.
